The Early Childhood (EC) Program’s classroom policies are detailed below. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any of the EC teachers for clarification.
1. DROP OFF/PICK UP:
*For all students arriving prior to 7:40 a.m., the drop off will be at the cafeteria. After 7:40 a.m., parents will drop off their child in the parking lot located behind the Primary Building. Safety Patrol will escort your child to the classroom. We kindly ask that you drop off your child at the drop off area and refrain from entering the classroom with your child so as to minimize your child’s and the other students' separation anxiety.
*Please note that the entrance door will be closed and locked promptly after the bell rings at the Primary Building at 8:00. If you need to drop your child off after 8:00 then you must take him/her to Mrs. Pawelek’s office in the main office. If you need to pick up your child early then please call Mrs. Pawelek ahead of time so that we have your child and his/her belongings in the office at the scheduled time.
*Pick-up will be in the Annex parking lot at 3:10. Please have your family name card visible in the window so that we keep the line moving. At 3:20, all remaining students will be signed in to After School Care (ASC).
*Please make sure that your child has finished eating breakfast before entering school so as to avoid the need for cleanup and the loss of instructional time.
2. SNACK:
*Every child is to bring his/her own snack each day for snack time. Snacks will not be provided for the students that fail to bring one. Snacks should be packed in a separate bag so as to avoid students eating them with their lunch. We would like our students to have healthy and nutritious self-serving foods, i.e., cheese or peanut butter and crackers, granola or breakfast bars, yogurt, fruits like bananas, grapes, peeled/cut apples and oranges and carrots/celery with a single serving of ranch dressing. You are free to add to this list to suit your child’s tastes but please do not send unhealthy snacks such as cakes, cookies, chips and candy. While you may pack a drink, it is not necessary since the children can get water at the water fountain.
3. NAP TIME:
*Please send a small lightweight blanket and a plastic nap mat (small pillow optional) so that your child may rest comfortably in the afternoon. Students are allowed to bring one soft toy for use during nap time. Blankets will be sent home every Friday to be washed.
*Children are not expected to sleep during rest time, but they are expected to sit/lay quietly. School is very stimulating and everyone needs a little down time before we finish out the day. It is also a great lesson in self control and that rest is an important part of staying healthy. Disruptive/inappropriate behavior at rest time may result in the child losing his/her sticker for the day.
4. TEACHER-PARENT COMMUNICATION:
*We have set up an Early Childhood website (www.stpetersearlychildhood.weebly.com) where you can find our classroom and curriculum information and links to a variety of websites.
*If you need to speak with the teacher about your child, you may email and/or send a note in the take home folder. If you choose to email a teacher, please allow at least 24 hours for a response. Teachers are unable to meet immediately before and after school or during the school day unless you have a scheduled appointment.
5. CANDY:
*Candy is not to be consumed during school hours. Please do not send candy in your child’s snack or lunch. If you send a Lunchable with your child then please remove the candy since it will be taken up if it is brought to school.
6. MONEY
*All money for school is to be placed in a labeled and sealed envelope and sent in your child’s take home folder.
7. TOYS AND OTHER VALUABLES FROM HOME:
*Please do not allow your child to bring any toys (excluding nap soft toy) or other valuables from home (video games, jewelry, and collectibles). The school cannot be responsible if they are lost or broken. Toys that are brought will be taken and placed in the student's backpack to be taken and left at home.
8. UNIFORMS:
*Student uniforms will checked daily for compliance with the Parent/Student Handbook rules regarding uniforms. Students who are not in compliance will receive a discipline notation for a uniform violation. Please take special note of the following rules:
A. K3 and K4 students wear only Velcro shoes.
B. Girls are permitted to wear stud earrings only.

Each month has a different focus, such as Building Vocabulary and Letter Knowledge. Throughout the year we will also have a few family projects to be completed over the weekend and returned on Monday. Please remember that all homework assignments and family projects are given as opportunities for parents to discover what their child is learning about in school and to reveal how these new concepts relate to their own family and experiences.
